PINE-INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL BLACK
For over 150 years "Industrial black" block flooring meant creosote treated pine or oak blocks, installed with coal tar pitch heated in a tar kettle! The coal tar pitch was used for both the adhesive below the blocks, and as a binder/sealer at the block surface. In days gone by, these products produced a rugged and long-lasting, and almost completely BLACK wood block installation, for both interior (factory) and exterior (street paving) applications.
For designers who are attracted to the "industrial" look for a commercial application, we would use natural colored pine blocks (or other species). They would be installed with standard parquet adhesives, they would be sanded smooth with conventional sanding machines, and then stained and finished with clear coatings. The results would be of similar appearance to our worthy industrial predecessor. If you request a sample for commercial application, the sample would be made with sanded blocks, ebony oil stain, and clear urethane finish. If your interest is for an industrial application, a sample could be made with the same blocks, but without surface sanding, and finished with our D-1261-2 Latex Black Sealer, or A-106 Black Sealer.
